In order to minimise the variety for interpretation, the planner should describe the characteristics of the concrete surfaces as clearly and unambiguously as possible. This is the only way of ensuring that the desired quality can be obtained. It should be remembered that tough requirements will always be refl ected in the construction costs. Agreement should be reached on what the latest “state of the art” is. Any individual addenda must not contradict one another. In general, the tender will constitute an integral part of the contract (e.g. preliminary remarks in the schedule of bid items and quantities, Standards, guidelines, technical bulletins, reference sites).

In the tender documentation, the properties of the fair-faced concrete surfaces can be described in accordance with e.g. the DBV Datasheet “Fair-faced concrete” (e.g. “SB 3, SB 4 – Concrete surfaces with stringent design specifi cations, e.g. façades in building construction...”) or with the ÖVBB Guideline “Formed concrete surfaces, Table 4/1” (e.g. “GB 3 - Concrete surfaces with very high specifi cations, e.g. concrete surfaces in building construction...”). Once a requirements category has been determined, the formwork category is then defi ned as a prescribed measure for carrying out the works. The formwork systems are assigned to the respective formwork categories here.
