Located about halfway between the German cities of Cologne and Mönchengladbach, Neurath is where Strabag AG has been commissioned by RWE Power AG to undertake construction work on a new lignite-fired power plant with optimised plant technology (BoA). The two-unit plant will have a generating capacity of 2 x 1100 MW and is only the second of its kind. The new plant utilises the energy stored in lignite about thirty-three percent more effectively than older lignite-fired plants, saving up to three million metric tons of CO2 per annum.
