Doka keeps construction companies throughout the world supplied with “Safe. Fast. Efficient.” formwork solutions and services. With revenues expected to reach € 835 m in 2007, and an export ratio of over 90 percent, the Doka Group is one of the world’s premier companies in all areas of formwork technology. Its vigorous international expansion, with new markets being opened up in rapid succession, calls for high-calibre servicing of a growing number of clients, and for continual enlargement and enhancement of its personnel and production capacity. By investing in a new training and exhibition centre, Doka is responding to the great increase in the need for training and instruction among its customers, employees and other interested parties. To continue ensuring both swift availability and top quality on all its formwork products well into the future, Doka is making huge investments in strengthening its sales capacity, and in state-of-the-art production facilities.

The globe-spanning Doka Sales Organisation, with more than 100 branches in over 60 countries, is constantly expanding. Day in, day out, more than 5000 highly committed Doka staff support construction firms all round the globe by giving them the ideal formwork solution in every single case. However, to enable all Doka customers to finish work on their jobsites as economically and in as good time as possible, they need not only the right formwork equipment but also the know-how to go with it. Doka field service technicians pass on this knowledge directly on the site. This on-site instruction makes sure that the crew can operate and use the formwork equipment in a “Safe. Fast. Efficient.” way. As well as this, Doka also offers courses that combine theoretical formwork knowledge with practical, “hands-on” exercise. The Doka Forum exhibition hall in the new seminar and continuing education centre in Amstetten, Austria, provides the ideal setting for this, with training possibilities that are geared to the situation on the site.

The 2500 m² Doka Forum gives all the answers to any question about formwork technology. This year-round expo showcases the latest spectrum of services from the Doka Group. The Doka Forum offers ideal surroundings for giving training to customers, staff and other interested parties and for keeping them informed on the latest generation of formwork technology. This expo stands out for its fully functional life-size exhibits. Here, impressive formwork systems like the ones used on the world’s tallest building, the Burj Dubai, can be watched “in action” from close quarters. A walkaround tour of the Forum acquaints visitors with the many different areas of application of Doka system formwork. In between each of the various product fields, there are several interactive displays to inform visitors on the Doka brand, its product and service range and its core areas of expertise.
The wall formwork zone is dominated by column, framed and timber-beam formwork systems for any usage situation – from the lightweight, hand-set Frami system all the way through to pre-assembled, site-ready Dokaset formwork. Anybody wanting to see just how easy a Doka shaft formwork is to use can try it out on the exhibit for themselves. In the tunnel formwork zone, visitors quickly appreciate the advantages of a hydraulic tunnel forming carriage when they see wall formwork elements being tilted up or folded out at the push of a button. “Safe. Fast. Efficient.” formwork technology for bridges is illustrated by faithfully reproduced 1:5 scale models. In the southern part of the pavilion, any gaps in visitors’ knowledge of climbing technology are quickly filled in. A 17 m high fair-faced concrete wall showcases the whole world of vertical formwork technology. No matter whether we’re looking at crane-dependent or self-climbed systems – all the exhibits can be “climbed” up this wall. A “high point” of the expo, in more ways than one, is the room-high, self-climbing Platform SCP. This is used for forming high-rise cores. Once the climbing mechanism has been set in motion, visitors ride up on the rising platform to get a bird’s-eye view of the whole Doka Forum. In the fair-faced concrete zone, the influence of various different form facings on the concrete finish is made easy to “grasp” – literally so! The speed with which 12.5 m² of floor-slab formwork can be shifted from one storey to the next is demonstrated impressively by the new Table Lifting System TLS in the floor-slab zone, which will be freeing up costly craneage on more and more sites from now on.

In its training events, Doka places very great emphasis on combining theory and practice – which is why the Doka Forum also contains a 500 m² training space. Here, participants in Doka courses can put into practice the knowledge they have just acquired in theory, getting hands-on experience of how “Safe. Fast. Efficient.” the various Doka systems are to use. Anybody who’s interested can try their hand at setting up load-bearing towers, framed or floor-slab formwork, or at repositioning Dokamatic tables using a shifting trolley and attachable drive unit. These training events make an active contribution towards workplace safety and towards efficient utilisation of the formwork equipment on the site. Ultimately, handling system formwork the right way, and using it efficiently, saves a great deal of time and money.
The theoretical content-matter of the Doka courses is imparted to participants in training rooms fitted out with the very latest multimedia infrastructure. From the teaching area, there is a clear view right into the formwork exhibition of the Doka Forum, through a wide glass front. The Doka seminars use the very latest presentation techniques to pass on formwork know-how for all areas of construction activity. Experienced professionals from the construction industry join with the Doka Formwork Experts to inform participants on innovations and the most efficient formwork solutions in the building-construction and civil-engineering fields, with experts passing on their knowledge and practical experience on such special topics as bridges, tunnels, fair-faced concrete, safety and climbing technology. Doka also organises special seminars tailored to individual customer needs. Doka seminars are well attended for another reason as well – they offer a good opportunity for building-industry professionals and trendsetters to exchange views. The Doka Forum is expected to draw more than 5000 people a year, from all over the world, to the various events to be held there.

For several years now, demand for modern concrete formwork systems has been on the rise on the world market. This is mainly due to the overall growth in construction industry demand, and – in a number of markets – to the substitution of system formwork in place of conventional formwork. With its expansion strategy, the Doka Group is working to win extra market share and to boost revenues to well over 1 billion euros by 2010. This growth strategy also provides for a substantial investment budget for expanding both Doka’s worldwide distribution network and its production capacity. To achieve even greater proximity to customers, Doka is determinedly continuing the build-out of its direct sales organisation: In very many new markets, it is establishing subsidiaries with generous warehousing space so that Doka customers can be sure of enjoying prompt equipment availability, and fast equipment reconditioning service, anywhere in the world.
In order to ensure that its products are of consistently high supply availability and quality, Doka sets great store by having its own highly efficient insourced production capability. Industrial processing of wood, wood-plastic composites, steel and aluminium, with subsequent surface treatment, is the core competence of Doka Production. Annual capacity for the “H20 top” formwork beam has thus been tripled, taking total annual output of timber formwork beams to 12 million linear metres. The “H20 top” is the only formwork beam with a shock-absorbent end-reinforcement, which explains why it is in such demand on the market. Polyurethane caps are moulded onto the machined beam-ends by fully automated injection-moulding stations, effectively preventing damage and water absorption at the ends of the beams. With regard to the wood-plastic composite sheets used in the framed formwork Framax Xlife, an additional production line – with an increased level of vertical integration – has doubled capacity to 1 million m² a year. Floor-prop production is also set to be boosted by the addition of a new production line permitting an output of 1.4 million units a year – twice the previous level. A new, fully automated high rack warehouse will add over 30,000 Doka-standard containers’ worth of extra capacity for storing and stock-picking Doka Metalworking products. The Doka production facility at Banská Bystrica in Slovakia, with annual capacity of 4 million m², gives Doka long-term security of supply for high-grade 3-ply sheets. The massive expansion which the Doka Group is undergoing is also having an impact on its many suppliers, of course. To ensure a high degree of supply readiness whenever needed, the network of reliable suppliers is being consistently enlarged. This provides more scope for offsetting any outages and dealing more easily with jumps in demand.
