Whichever country’s accident statistics you look at, they all tell the same story: In no other sector is the risk of having an accident at work as high as in the construction industry. In Austria, for example, more than 20 percent of all occupational accidents happen on construction sites. Falls from elevated locations are among the commonest types of accident here. They are mainly attributable to inadequate safety precautions regarding working platforms and vertical access facilities, and to the constantly changing working conditions. The consequences of falls are very serious indeed. As well as causing untold human suffering, they also impose high costs on construction firms, in terms of the loss of precious skilled staff and of delays in construction progress. Working platforms with comprehensive safety features, and permanently mounted vertical access facilities, make a major contribution towards enhancing workplace safety during forming operations. Doka offers a wide array of safety solutions that minimise accident risk and make for a fast and cost-efficient workflow.

With its permanently mounted telescoping ladders, self-locking manholes and integral end guards and side railings, the Platform system Xsafe sets a new benchmark for on-site safety. The completely pre-assembled working platforms are ready for immediate use on the site, and ensure a maximum of safety right from the very first moment the crew step onto them. The high-quality workmanship of the working platforms, with their hot-dip galvanised components and compatibility with the Framed formwork Xlife and Large-area formwork Top 50 systems, ensures high cost-efficiency and the very greatest flexibility in the forming operations. The highly practical facility for connecting panel struts to the rear of the brackets always leaves unobstructed workspaces, even with very high wall formwork, and greatly simplifies the formwork planning.

The Doka ladder system XS comes with an integral ladder cage and is designed to maximise up-and-down access safety. The Ladder system XS is a true “all-rounder” that can be added to any Doka wall or column formwork, or “Supporting construction frame”, in just a few simple steps. The sturdy design of this safety system, with hot-dip galvanised components, is guaranteed to give it a long and troublefree service life.

As well as a significant increase in load-bearing capacity, the development effort on the new Load-bearing tower Staxo 100 was also focused on optimising the safety of its vertical access system. This has been achieved with slip-proof ladder rungs integrated in the towerframes and with defined hitching points for chest harnesses, together enabling crew to climb up and down quickly and safely. Also, “mounted-ahead” railings and liftout-safe assembly battens, with or without manhole lids, provide the very greatest safety for crew erecting and dismantling the towerframe units.
The topic of operational safety is also a principal focus of Doka’s wide-ranging vocational and continuing training offerings. Experienced Doka formwork technicians and on-site safety experts pass on the basics of how to ensure safe formwork operations, and give participants valuable tips on putting this knowledge into practice on the site. The Doka Forum in Amstetten provides an ideal context in which to learn and practise the right way of setting up and using the various safety systems for wall formwork and floor-slab formwork.
