Fast cycle times with Dokaflex tables
Doka USA provides the tables for retirement community
Wisconsin-based contractor Vogel Bros. Building Co. is building a new eight-story retirement center in Madison. The project, Heritage Oaks, features 124 independent living apartments for elderly residents and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2006.
Vogel Bros. has opted to use the Dokaflex table system for all floor slabs on all levels of the Oakwood Village West project.
The structure is an eight-story, post-tensioned, concrete framed building with a two-story underground car park. Vogel Bros. has opted to use the Dokaflex table system for forming the floor slabs on all levels. Using Doka tables and their unique shifting equipment gives the contractor fast cycle times for each floor.“The Dokaflex table system is simple and effective,” says project engineer Jay Thomsen of Vogel Bros., adding, “There is no bracing and moving the tables is effortless thanks to the shifting trolley.” Comprising just three main components 18mm HDO plywood, H20 timber beams and Eurex 30 floor props – the Dokaflex floor formwork system allows easy inventory control and a reduced number of items on site. All that is required to convert the loose-framed Dokaflex system into a Dokaflex table system is the addition of quick-connect table heads and beam-to-beam connectors. The tables are built on site by the contractor and adapt easily to fill the areas between columns. The system also allows a 90cm wide walkway outside the slabs and outside corners for added safety. In total, Vogel Bros. is setting and stripping 3000m2 sf of Dokaflex tables and infill areas per floor. Two small crews of 3-4 men each are setting up and stripping down the tables and reshoring the slabs.

Doka USA provided jobsite service that is in sequence to the project’s progress. Initial table assembly instruction and a general overview of how to use the equipment is essential for minimizing mistakes and developing correct user habits. Doka USA provided this service for the experienced staff of Vogel Bros. with a minimum learning curve.
