For the walls of a 1700 m cut-and-cover tunnel, the French construction firm Dodin are using Framax Xlife extra-large panels with the new Doka platform system Xsafe. This unbeatably fast safety system can go into action immediately, as its working platforms come completely pre-mounted. Thanks to its reliably safeguarded work-decks, it provides optimum safety, boosting the cost efficiency of the site – because safe working also means faster construction workflows.

In conjunction with the new Platform system Xsafe, Framax Xlife extra-large panels are speeding up construction work on this cut-and-cover tunnel in Angers.

This tunnel is being built with
one 13.30 m wide box-section
tunnel, with a clear height of
6.60 m, for each carriageway. The
two outside walls and the partition
wall between the two tubes are being
cast in in-situ concrete. Dodin
is casting 15 m long sections every
day, using vertically stacked Framax
Xlife extra-large panels equipped
with the new Platform system
Xsafe. Using the 2.70 x 3.30 m
panels enables the site crew to
work even faster. Per linear metre
of formwork, fewer inter-panel connections
and fewer formties are
needed. And thanks to the large-area
panels, bigger gang-forms can
be repositioned at one go.

The Platform system Xsafe can be fixed to the formwork in a few simple steps, and features integrated guard rails, safe auto-closing manholes, and telescoping ladders.

With the new Doka platform system
Xsafe, all operations – such as
manipulating the form-ties or filling
the formwork – proceed considerably
more quickly and easily.
The site crew need not worry about their personal safety, and
this has a direct impact on the
speed at which they work. Xsafe is
delivered to the site folded closed
to save space, and is readied for
operation straight away: The completely
pre-assembled platforms
are simply unfolded and fixed to
the formwork in a few easy steps.
The platforms feature integrated
side and front railings, ensuring reliably
safeguarded work-decks. Telescoping
ladders and self-closing
manhole lids provide safe up-and-down
access between the different
platform levels. Xsafe makes a decisive
improvement to on-site safety,
and remains mounted to the
gang-form even while this is being
lifted. In this way, even the stringent
French safety regulations are
100 % fulfilled.
