Destined to be the first hotel on the prestigious Dubai Marina project, the Grosvenor House Hotel is currently being constructed using Doka formwork systems for its walls, slabs and columns construction.
The new Grosvenor House Hotel and Apartments Tower is on schedule to be the first hotel for the prestigious Dubai Marina project. Forming part of the West Marina Beach Resort, the Grosvenor will be managed by Le Méridien.Featuring three basement levels, a ground floor and a 45-storey tower, main contractor Nasa Multiplex turned to Doka Emirates LLC for the supply of its formwork systems throughout construction.
Dubai Marina
Described as the world’s largest master planned waterfront development of its kind, Dubai Marina will be the region’s first ‘intelligent city’ that will eventually house 35,000 people in luxurious residential towers, villas and hotels.
Covering an area of 4.5 km2 and featuring a 3.5 km-long man-made lagoon, it will provide almost 9 km of marina frontage; starting at the Dubai International Marine Club and returning to the ocean just beyond the Sheraton Jumeirah, some 25 km from Dubai’s city centre.
Grosvenor House
The new multi-use complex, currently under construction is owned by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Emirates Airline and President of Dubai Civil Aviation. It is named after the legendary landmark, Le Méridien Grosvenor House in Park Lane; one of London’s most prestigious hotel locations. Like its London namesake, Grosvenor House is set to become an exclusive address in the upcoming Dubai Marina – earmarked by developers as “the lifestyle hub of Dubai”.

The new hotel is, according to the owners representative for the Grosvenor House project, Ali Al Mubarak Al Soori, “to set new standards in the global hospitality business.” It will have 218 rooms and suites in the luxurious self-contained hotel tower, as well as 206 one-, two- and three-bedroom butler-serviced apartments. “All of the ground deluxe accommodation will have sweeping views of the skyline, marina and Arabian Gulf,” said Ali Al Soori. He added, “Grosvenor House will be second to none, reflecting a position of sheer luxury and exclusivity in the hospitality sector – it will stand its own amongst some of the world’s most acclaimed hotels.”
Construction
In constructing the three-storey basement, main contractor Nasa Multiplex utilised 252 m2 of Doka’s single-sided Top 50 formwork to prepare the perimeter walls on each 3 m high floor. In total more than 8000 m2 of perimeter walls have been poured using the Doka system which proved the ideal solution for large area formwork.

For slab construction from basement levels up to the hotel’s fourth podium level with constantly changing floor heights, Nasa Multiplex used the Dokaflex 20 system. More than 1500 Eco20 props in a variety of heights of 3 m, 3.5 m and 4.1 m were used for repropping duties over three floors at a time.
The contractor then converted to the Dokaflex tableform system for the tower’s typical floors up to the 45th storey. These typical floors with a height of 3.5 m feature a slab thickness of 250 – 300 mm and cover a floor area of approximately 2040 m2/floor.

For construction of the tower walls the contractor is using the Doka Top 50 with climbing 150F formwork system. Using this mix of Doka formwork including columns and shear walls ensure that the contractor is able to meet the specified floor cycle completion rate of four days. According to Pam Wilby, General Manager of Grosvenor House, the new project’s design and construction will set new benchmarks.

“From the foundations up, this stunning hotel will create new dimensions in the industry, not just because of its stunning interiors but also in the quality and style of service,” she said.
