An ultra-modern building - the Tour CBX - is presently going up in the avant-garde Parisian district of La Défense. The contractors are the Belgian company BESIX. This office tower will top out at around 146 m and comprise 31 storeys and 4 basement levels. Upon completion of the 40,000 m2 of office space, 3200 people will then move into their new workplaces.

The out-of-the-ordinary architectural concept of the Tour CBX is simply captivating - especially because of the façade on the south side of the building, whose gentle curvature is in stark contrast to the straight façade of the north side.
The Doka platform SCP is being used here for the first time in France, to construct the core, which is characterised by greatly varying geometry and wall thicknesses. Owing to a widening in the crosssection of the core, from the 5th storey upwards the platform will have to be extended by around 100 m2. With a total area of 530 m2, this will then be the biggest SCP platform Doka has ever built. Following the modifications necessitated by the change in the crosssection of the core, the 3.75 m high casting sections are being executed in a weekly cycle. The big advantage of this Doka solution is the high degree of workplace safety that it offers: Enclosed on all sides and with around 1600 m2 of suspended wall formwork Top 50, the platform provides working conditions that are every bit as safe as those down on the ground. All operations are carried out from the safety of the platform, with no need to work on several different levels. What is more, the entire platform can be raised to the next casting section in one single lift. The 360 tonne SCP platform takes 1 - 2 hours to climb to the next-higher section.
Despite the complicated shape of this structure and the many modifications needed in the lower storeys, with the capable support given by the Doka technicians the contractors are right on schedule.
Work on the structure shell has to be completed by October 2004. Final completion of the structure is scheduled for late 2005.
