Staxo 40 as a symbolic link

Slovak students use Doka products to build symbolic bridge for UNICEF aid project ‘Schools for Africa’.

The Schools for Africa campaign aims to give disadvantaged children in Africa access to primary education. The campaign was initiated by UNICEF in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Peter Krämer Stiftung. Slovakia, too, has pledged its help for the campaign. Students of the Faculty of Architecture (‘FA’) at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava built a so-called ‘fa.bridge’ to symbolise this project. Doka helped this building project along by loaning Load-bearing tower Staxo 40 equipment, 3-SO formwork sheets and H20 top timber beams. This ‘Doka Bridge’ stands as a metaphor for how cities, people, cultures and worlds are linked together. Several events have been held on the bridge, such as roundtable discussions and a book bazaar.

About the ‘Schools for Africa’ project

New schools, repairs to classrooms, installing wells and latrines, organising school meals – these are among the aims of ‘Schools for Africa’. With support from many countries, UNICEF has been able to build or repair more than 1100 schools in 11 of Africa’s most needy countries since 2005.
