Wudongde Arch Dam

China

As the world's seventh-largest hydropower project under construction the Dam of Wudongde hydropower station is the world's thinnest double curvature arch dam among dams with height of approximately 300m.

Challenge:

  • complex geometry
  • small curvature radius of a parabolic shape
  • straight and twist block joint in different elevation
  • strong windy weather on site
  • low heat cement concrete application
  • high casting height of 4.5m

Solution:

  • Curved Top50 large area formwork to fit the structure shape with high precision
  • Hydraulic self climbing D35 dam formwork along double arched structure surface in strong windy weather
  • Full planning climbing tracks to meet the structure change
