Three Gorges Dam Shiplift

China

The ability to navigate the Yangtze Kiang has always been limited by great fluctuations in the depth of its water level. The new construction will raise the water level in this area of the dam by roughly 70 m. To date the Three Gorges Dam is the world's largest ship lift. With a total lift of 113 m and a lock lift capacity of 11,800 tonnes (water and freight), the ship lift is equipped for the future.
