A new court building with adjacent parking structure is under construction in Al Farwaniya, a suburb of Kuwait City and will take up an area of 200,000 m2. The 20-storey Farwaniya Court Complex will comprise 80 court rooms, 23 conference rooms, offices and public facilities. The heterogeneous shape of the building with an inclined wall on the front elevation presented a particular challenge for Doka engineers. Valuable know-how and experience gathered during previous projects was incorporated from the start of the project so that the tough schedule could be met. Doka's own branch in Kuwait ensured just-in-time delivery as well as good engineering and sales support on site. Large-area formwork Top 50 and Column formwork Framax Xlife are used to form core and supporting walls. The Automatic climbing formwork SKE50 saves on costly crane use and time during construction of the building core. Pre-assembled Dokaflex tables are available for the floor formwork.
As a reliable formwork partner with decades of experience, Doka was also awarded the contract for building the Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre, the museum and cultural district in Kuwait City. Six buildings in total will cover the 50,000 m2 area: a museum of natural history, sciences, Islamic art and space as well as a theatre with 350 seats and an information centre. The generously dimensioned buildings are interconnected by covered paths from north to south. Underground garages on both sides of the district provide ample parking facilities. The centre is constructed using Large-area formwork Top 50, Column formwork Framax Xlife and Special formwork for concrete beams.
Since the building contractor already realised several joint construction projects with Doka with both management teams having enjoyed a partner-like and appreciative atmosphere, the decision was made in favour of Doka for both projects. The team worked well together right from the start and the crew was already familiar with the formwork systems. On-site training led by a Doka Formwork Instructor optimised handling of the high-performing systems. Thanks to superb cooperation, both projects are progressing smoothly and rapidly.
