A deliciously cool start to the employee engagement survey

Improvements depend on honest feedback. This is why the Umdasch Group introduced a global engagement survey so that all employees have an opportunity to make their views known.

The launch for this new survey tool was brilliant: it quickly became apparent that our employees are utterly committed in their desire to engage more. Doka Canada, for instance, achieved a high level of acceptance and a high response rate with a culinary event.

While they took part in the survey, employees were pampered with drinks and popcorn and, once the survey had been completed, they could help themselves to an ice cream from an ice cream truck that had been specially brought in for the occasion.

Kevin Hall

Kevin Hall | Branch Manager in Calgary

“A survey on employee engagement is a brilliant instrument to find out the truth in a respectful way but we want to do more. We want to design the employee survey so that it is genuinely appealing and to ensure that this is an instrument that leaves a positive first impression.”

Thus the event in Canada was a huge success and set a high benchmark internally. They successfully combined the engagement survey with positive experiences. In addition to that, the local management demonstrated to employees that their concerns are heard and taken seriously because the first measures that resulted from the feedback have already been put into practice. For instance, flexible working time has already been introduced in certain areas.

Together we drive momentum

As part of the Umdasch Group, we at Doka aim to not only be economically successful, but also fulfill our ecological and social responsibilities as well as our responsibility as an employer. Therefore, we regularly set impulses within and outside our company and drive international initiatives that make our common working and living environment more sustainable.

“I was thankful for the opportunity to express my thoughts in the survey. The management's response, which confirmed what had been said, was both encouraging and valuable.”

However, other parts of the company were also active. It was due to the special concept that Doka production sites achieved the incredible participation rate of 75% of all employees and contract workers. But the Umdasch Store Makers showed genuine pioneering spirit and involved the entire organisation even during the pilot phase.

In the meantime, the survey tool has been deployed over the whole Umdasch Group and helps us to fulfil our social responsibility towards our employees and to continue to develop ourselves as employers and as a company over the long term, thanks to the constructive feedback.

“It was a unique experience for me to give the company feedback via an online survey. We know that many topics are sensitive and this gave me the opportunity to express my thoughts without having to hold back. Since then, the management has responded and taken measures to resolve the deficiencies on both sides. The experience overall is positive.”

Doka and Umdasch Group are committed to sustainable development.
This is why we subscribe to initiatives that are aligned with the United Nations’ “Sustainable Development Goals”.
