Edge beams

The finishing touch for the bridge

The non-traffic edge formation of bridges made of reinforced or pre-stressed concrete is called Bridge edge-beams. They have to fulfil a wide variety of functions. In addition to protecting the load-bearing bridge structure, they serve to anchor passive protective devices and as a bicycle and/or pedestrian path.

Highlights:

  • cast on top of the roadway slab after sealing
  • the parapet is frictionally bonded to the superstructure

Functions of this structural element:

  • safeguard traffic on the bridge
  • installation of crash barriers
  • absorb the impact forces of vehicles straying out of lane
  • conceal dimensional inaccuracies of the cantilever arm
