Doka Elevates Healthcare Construction at Indiana University’s New Downtown Hospital

7/23/2025 | Kenilworth, New Jersey
We make it work.
Doka is proud to support one of North America’s largest healthcare construction projects: the new Indiana University (IU) Health Downtown Hospital in Indianapolis. Spanning 2.65 million square feet and rising 16 stories across three massive towers, this cutting-edge medical facility will offer 864 inpatient rooms, 50 operating rooms, and 110 emergency care spaces—all built on a foundation of safety, speed, and precision enabled by Doka’s world-class formwork systems.

The project was developed by CURIS Design, HOK, and the Wilhelm/Gilbane joint venture with F.A. Wilhelm Construction serving as construction manager and concrete contractor. Building the new hospital called for a flexible, scalable formwork strategy to meet the project’s complex demands and compressed timelines. Doka responded with a comprehensive solution for the building’s core, façade, and columns, including leading technologies such as Top 50, Super Climber SCP, Framax, and climbing formwork MF240.

Integrated Doka Systems Deliver on All Fronts

Core Construction: Doka’s Super Climber SCP and Top 50 formwork systems are being reused efficiently throughout the core, enhancing cycle times and operational safety.
Lobby Slabs Innovation: A project-tailored hydraulic lift solution designed by Doka’s engineering team allows slabs to be poured through the core, streamlining the process and increasing productivity.
Tall Column Excellence: Framax Xlife is used to form the hospital’s massive 40-foot-tall columns, demonstrating the strength and versatility of Doka’s framed formwork solutions.
Perimeter Safety and Access: The MF240 platform system, tailored for the job’s unique height and design, ensures worker safety and efficient material handling as the building reaches its full height.

“This project represents so many topics that Doka stands for: engineering ingenuity, safety, and partnership at scale,” said Michael Kennedy, Executive Vice President for Doka in the Americas and CEO of Doka USA. “From Framax forms to our climbing and perimeter systems, the Doka team delivered a full-scope solution to keep this monumental hospital project on time and on track.”

As the project nears completion Doka continues to deliver efficient, safe, and high-performance forming solutions, underscoring its reputation as a trusted provider on some of the most high-profile projects across the country.
